Issue Tracking for Slack
Post issue activity into the channels your team already watches, raise and look up issues without leaving Slack, and turn a pasted issue link into a card.
Add to SlackYou will be asked to sign in to TotalCtrl first. An integration is installed into a workspace, so we have to know which one.
What it does
Notifications in the channel you choose
Issue created, status changed, assigned, comment added, sprint started and
sprint completed. Tick the ones you want; a configuration can cover the
whole workspace or a single project.
The
/issues command/issues PROJ-42 looks one up, /issues create <title>
raises one, and /issues assign PROJ-42 someone@example.com
assigns it. Assigning takes an email address rather than a Slack handle:
the address is matched against your own TotalCtrl members, so the app
never reads your Slack directory.
Issue links expand into cards
Paste a link to an issue and Slack replaces the bare URL with its title,
status, priority and assignee.
Permissions it asks for
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
chat:write |
Post the notification into your channel, and reply to /issues. |
commands |
Receive the /issues command. |
links:read |
See that an issue link was pasted. Slack only sends this for links to our own domain. |
links:write |
Replace that link with the issue card. |
It cannot send anyone a direct message. There is no
im:write, so it has no way to open a DM. Everything it posts
goes to a channel you picked, and its Messages tab is switched off for the
same reason.
What it can see
It reads nothing from Slack on its own. Slack tells it two things, both
caused by somebody deliberately: a
/issues command that was
typed, and a link to our domain that was pasted in a channel the
app is in. It does not read channel history, member lists or files.
Removing it
Remove the app from Slack (Settings & administration
→ Manage apps) or disconnect it inside TotalCtrl. Either one stops it
immediately; disconnecting in TotalCtrl also deletes the stored token.
Removing it stops the notifications; your issues, comments and history in
TotalCtrl are untouched.
